What to document
Good notes help separate waterproofing, foundation repair, drain tile, sump, crawl space, and exterior drainage needs before estimates are compared.
- Stay safe first: avoid standing water near outlets, cords, appliances, or panels.
- Note when water appeared and whether rain, snowmelt, or a power outage was happening.
- Mark where water enters: wall crack, floor joint, window well, sump basin, crawl space, or unknown source.
- Check gutters, downspouts, exterior grade, and discharge outlets from a safe place.
- Take photos of water lines, cracks, sump equipment, and exterior drainage clues.
When to request quotes
Request quotes when water repeats, cracks leak, the basement is finished, the sump system is unclear, or you want a plan before thaw and storm season.
